Woolpit Drama Club has enlisted the help of young musicians to provide a six-piece orchestra for a performance of Oh! What a Lovely War next month.

Julian Jarvis, a music teacher at County Upper School, in Bury St Edmunds, will act as musical director and has recruited a number of sixth form music students from the school to play for the show’s many songs and music numbers.

Oh! What a Lovely War was created by Joan Littlewood’s theatre workshop in 1963.

It is a unique blend of action and songs, played out against a backdrop of slides and images, which gives an expressive insight into the course of the war and its effects on soldiers at the front an d civilians at home.

The show will be performed at Woolpit Village Hall on November 20,21 and 22 at 7.30pm with a 2.30pm matinee on Saturday, November 22.

Tickets are £10 with £1 from every ticket sold going to the RBL Poppy Appeal. They are available from Woolput Post Office or phone 01359 242283.
