A FORMER choirboy‘s ascent to stardom has picked up speed after he made it into the final of the Chilean version of X Factor.
Charlie Bick, 19, from near Thetford, has found himself as the exotic star of Chile’s version of the hit talent show after impressing judges with his version of Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror.
That performance has put Charlie into the final 12 –having started as one of 12,000 hopefuls.
Speaking to the Bury Free Press, Charlie said he would be giving it his best, having edged out opposition in the bootcamp stage.
“If I express myself and give the best performances possible, I think I could do very well.
“The bootcamp stage has been a very big experience, although it was fun and entertaining, the nerves were running high among everybody.
“At times I thought some people were going to have a nervous breakdown,” he said.
The former Harrow School pupil has found himself in the spotlight in Chile, with almost 5,000 people now following him on Facebook and having racked up more than 50,000 hits on YouTube.
The reaction hasn’t been lost on Charlie.
“It’s been unbelievable. I have received nothing but very nice and supportive comments from the Chilean people and I never knew girls could scream so loud.”
Charlie now faces the judges in a series of live performances – two a week for the next five weeks.
After cracking the auditions with a solo performance of Enrique Iglesias’ Hero, Charlie will now sing with two other female entrants in the group Aduana.
He is currently staying in Chile while studying Spanish.
It is his second stay in South America, having taught football and English in Santiago last year.
Parents Susie and David are set to join Charlie in Santiago as the show continues.
