The Watoto Children’s Choir’s music and dance is described as an energetic fusion of contemporary gospel and traditional African rhythm.
It is also a message of hope.. Every child in the choir has lost one or both parents and lives in one of the Watoto Villages which seek to give them the nuture they need to develop fulfilling lives.
There have been 55 choirs touring internationally since 1994 as ambassadors for the millions of children in Africa, orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS, war and poverty.
Gary Skinner, Watoto’s founder, said “Through the choir’s Concert of Hope, we share a message of transformation by telling the story of Africa’s rescued orphans. “
Their production Beautiful Africa: A New Generation opened in America in 2011 and comes to St Mary’s Church, Bury St Edmunds, on May 31 at 7pm. Tickets are free, though a booking fee applies, from the Theatre Royal box office at 01284 769505 or www.theatreroyal.org
