Talented and versatile international singer Jonathan Veira is coming to Southgate Community Centre in Bury St Edmunds as part of his ‘Larger than Life’ tour.

From Billy Joel to Mozart and everything in-between – nothing seems too hard for Jonathan.

Ballads, blues, rock n roll, jazz and even opera – everything sounds completely authentic and exhilarating.

Accompanying himself with amazing dexterity, his glorious singing frequently moves people to tears and then they find themselves weeping for another reason!

A naturally funny man, Jonathan’s infectious humour draws you in to his joyful presence – before long he feels like a good friend.

Bob Jones from Southgate Church in the Hardwick area of Bury says: “Jonathan performs songs of great diversity to an incredibly high standard – which quite possibly makes him unique in the world of entertainment.

“We have heard so many good things about his talent that we wanted to offer this musical treat to our local community.”

Recently praised in The Independent for his brilliant performance – ‘larger than life and utterly credible’, and by The Arts Desk for being ‘a comic (bass) baritone now in his vintage prime’, international singer Jonathan Veira is no stranger to venues that hold thousands of people, but he is changing his habits.

Instead of appearing on stage singing -to great acclaim -to thousands, he is performing his show in far more intimate settings.

When asked why he is putting aside opera for a while and going ‘Larger than Life’, Jonathan answers: “I’m energised by doing these shows because of the closeness and interaction with the audience.

“It’s wonderful to be able to incorporate the wide variety of music that I love to perform from Verdi and Mozart to Elton John and even some Country & Western.

“I love having the freedom to tell the stories of my life and faith in an open, honest – and mostly funny – way. I believe that all this together makes my show unique.”

It is rare these days to find someone who can sing beautifully, entertain and make people of all ages laugh, and possibly even cry. To communicate in a family friendly way, without using bad language as JV does is remarkable - it’s a reputation to be proud of.

Bob Jones adds: “Jonathan Veira really is ‘larger than life’ and you’ll love to see him in action. His engaging and enthusiastic performance leaves a lasting impression.”

The show takes place in Southgate Community Centre on Saturday, February 27 with doors open at 7pm. Tickets are available at £10 from Jackie on 01284 703705 or office@southgatechurch.org.uk. Interval refreshments will be available.
