There is nothing quite like a romantic Italian to celebrate as a couple while the children are with the grandparents.
The restaurant chain has won a number of awards including best casual dining chain’ in the MIDAS Awards (2011), and Italian restaurant chain of the year in the PAPA (Pizza and Pasta Association) awards in 2009.
And its VIPizza has been exclusively prepared by awarding winning celebrity chef Aldo Zilli.
So expectations were high.
My wife and I opted for the Italian style nachos (£6.95) for a starter to share.
Covered in cherry tomatoes, dried red onions, garlic, melted cheese and pesto, they were simply delicious.
I then opted for the chicken ravioli (£10.25). Tender and accompanied with pancetta bacon, leeks and gran padano cheese in a cream sauce, it melted away in my mouth.
My wife opted for the Italian style burger (£10.45). It came out on what appeared to be a cheese board with a tiny mouse bowl of fries.
Apart from crispy prosciutto ham, it was difficult to see what distinguished its Italian style – although it was tasty.
The service was good, the staff checked back on us a number of times, and the atmosphere was friendly.
That said we went early on a Saturday evening and did not see any young families eating there – although they do have a children’s menu.
Overall the food was good value. Neither of us had any room left in out belts to make it onto the deserts menu. I love tiramisu so a trip back may be in order.
