Imperial War Museum Duxford is telling the story of ‘Big Week’ this half term - the bombing campaign which paved the way for the D-Day invasion.

Seventy years ago, military planners knew that the only chance of invading France successfully was if the men on the ground were not being attacked by enemy aircraft.

So they decided to lure the German Air Force into large-scale aerial warfare, reducing their bombing and manufacturing capability in the four months leading up to the big invasion.

From February 15 to February 23, an interpreter from the museum will inhabit different characters to tell the story of airmen and their aircraft during Big Week and the vital role of groundcrew in making it possible. The interactive talks take place in Airspace at 10.30am, 11.15am and noon and at 1.30pm, 2.15pm and 3pm in the American Air Museum.
