One thousand meringues, beach huts and a military display were the ingredients which created a successful open gardens event in Walsham-le-Willows over the weekend.
It was the 28th open gardens event and 200-plus helpers ensured the two days went off smoothly.

Sunday suffered from bad weather in the morning and the effects of the finale of the Olympic Games but Monday's bright weather brought the crowds flocking to the village.

Gardens ranged from large to tiny and visitors also enjoyed a stroll round the village allotments with their brightly coloured sheds, nicknamed the beach huts.

A history exhibition, art display and sale, a village market as well as bell ringing added to the atmosphere.

Teas were provided by a band of hard-working volunteers at the Memorial Hall, with churchwarden Janet Kerridge cooking 1,000 meringues for the event.

Money raised will be shared between the church and village organisations. Last year's event raised £12,000 and this helped to purchase cameras for birdboxes at the village school, a mower for the allotments, a strimmer for the churchyard and seats for the sports club.
