Football: Key Town duo set to move on?
THETFORD Town FC may be without two key players ahead of a tough Ridgeons League Division One test at second-place Ely City tomorrow (ko 3pm).
In-form central midfielder Luke Catchpole and tough-tackling defender Stuart Boddy have been subject to seven-day approaches from Diss Town and Lakenheath respectively.
Losing Boddy would leave the inconsistent Brecklanders stretched in defence following the bizarre walk-out of fellow centre-back Kenny Brooks last month, while Cathpole's exit would also be a blow after the playmaker has formed a fine partnership in the middle with recent acquisition Lee Sim.
Team boss Simon Brooks said, "Obviously, I hope both players stay with us. They are both very good players and it is no surprise that they are attracting attention."
Town crashed to a heavy 6-2 home defeat against local rivals Diss Town on Saturday (report on page 74) – a display Brooks described as shocking.
"I was very disappointed, but credit has to be given to Diss for finishing their chances well.
"Not for the first time this season, we made too many wrong decisions."
The Mundford Road-based chief has demanded a positive reaction from his players tomorrow.
"The league table does not lie. Ely are second because they are a good side.
"I have sat down with the players and they know I expect a much better performance," said Brooks.
Lee Sim and defender Kwame Jones both return to the starting line-up, but shot stopper Lee Hulyer is still out of action with strained ankle ligaments.
Norwich Utd keeper Chris Bolderstone is nearing a move to Mundford Road. He is expected to start tomorrow's game, if terms are agreed in time.
