Thetford Town 2,
Godmanchester Rovers 2
THETFORD'S inconsistent form continued after being held to draw in what was a mediocre mid-table Division One clash.

The hosts, who have recorded back-to-back league victories just once all season, started in typically bright and robust fashion.

However, naive defending from a set-piece left Rovers captain Beasley with what seemed like an age to settle himself before drilling hard and low past Lee Huyler to give the visitors the lead on seven minutes (writes MARK WILLIAMS).

Despite dictating play for long periods, Town's attacks were pedestrian and lacked creativity.

It needed a stroke of luck to provide Thetford with an equaliser on the half hour mark. A yard inside the visitors'half, Andrew Cusack hoisted a high cross into the box where Pat Armes – one of the shortest players on the pitch – sent a miss-hit header looping over the goalkeeper and into the net.

Frontman Karl Pask should have made it two a minute later, but his tame close-range strike was comfortably claimed by Armitage.

The quality moved up a small notch after the break and frontrunner Andrew Wood provided the outstanding moment of the match to give the Brecklanders a 49th minute lead.

The tall striker peeled off his marker before checking back and superbly firing the ball into the roof of the net.

Luke Catchpole appeared destined to seal the points, but his fierce 12-yard effort rattled against the crossbar before bouncing to safety.

Boosted by their good fortune, Godmanchester raised their game late on but seldom looked like scoring until sloppy defending gifted them an equaliser.

A long, straight ball down the middle seemed harmless enough until Cusack and Dave Richards left it for each other and Bass ghosted in to lift the ball into the net and snatch a draw.
