A Thetford school is celebrating after being taken off special measures by Ofsted inspectors.
Abbey Junior School, which is set to be merged with Canterbury Infant to create a Church of England primary school next year, was placed on special measures in September 2006.
Following a recent inspection, Ofsted said Abbey Junior had made 'very good progress' and praised the school's leadership and improved curriculum.
Lin Wakeford, who was appointed interim headteacher at the school to oversee improvements, said: "Everyone at the school is thrilled that Ofsted has recognised our determination to raise standards.
"Reading has started to improve significantly and we know this will have a huge impact on all areas of the curriculum.
"Staff have shown real dedication and this has impacted on lessons, which our pupils are enjoying and taking part in with renewed enthusiasm."
She added: "I would like to thank everyone for their hard work and commitment in helping to bring about these improvements."
Ofsted said 'good leadership' had helped the school to make progress in teaching and achievement.
The report said most children's behaviour had improved and pupils were aware of their targets and what they needed to do to achieve them.
Inspectors also said children were enjoying their lessons and were able to take more responsibility and acquire the skills they needed to contribute to the community and to their future well-being.
Rosalie Monbiot, Norfolk County Council cabinet member for children's services, said: "I am thrilled for the staff, parents and, most importantly, the pupils at Abbey Junior School.
"It is fantastic that the school has been removed from special measures ahead of its amalgamation with the neighbouring infant school and gives the new primary school a great basis for future success.
"Everyone has worked incredibly hard to bring about these improvements and we have invested considerable resources in the school to support its progress. I would like to congratulate and thank everyone for all of their hard work."
