The fight to stop Thetford's rare Abbey cottages and barns from being turned into houses has been given added weight with MEP support and free public talks.
Richard Howitt, MEP for the East of England, met Thetford Society campaigners on Friday and hopes to use his Labour Party influence and European contacts to help.

Mr Howitt said: "These are some of the only surviving inner precinct monastic barns and are, I believe, unique.

"Europe is about protecting local heritage and I am here to give my total support to efforts to save our local heritage."
