A Brandon Special constable, who has given 28 years' service to the community, has retired.
Allan Davey, 65, of Thetford Road, retired from Suffolk Police this week and was treated to a surprise leaving party at the Church Institute, in London Road, surrounded by family, friends and colleagues.
Mr Davey, a civil engineer project manager who worked for Wimpey and Tarmac for a total of 41 years, served as a Special for 23 years.
He attained the rank of area officer and was awarded the Long Service Medal and Bar for his achievements before becoming a traffic warden and then a PCSO in 2005, when he joined the town's Safer Neighbourhood Team – the first one in Suffolk.
Mr Davey said: "This surprise party is all such a shock and I can't believe what everyone has done for me.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Special Constabulary, from the adrenalin rush I used to get in my younger days to all the different people I have met, young and old, along the way.
"My proudest moment was when I was awarded the rank of area officer, where I was in charge of 130 Specials, and I will certainly miss it."
Chief Insp Michael Holdsworth, Forest Heath district commander, called Mr Davey a 'legend' and thanked him for his dedication.
Mr Davey was presented with a tankard, photo frame, mantle clock and picture, while his wife June was presented with a bouquet of flowers.
Martin Ashburn, Commandant of Suffolk's Special Police, said: "Allan's service with the Special Constabulary demonstrates his commitment and dedication to helping to improve the quality of life for all members of the community.
"All his colleagues join in wishing him a long, healthy and happy retirement."
Sgt Jo Garrard, who was Mr Davey's sergeant when the Brandon Safer Neighbourhood Team was piloted, said: "Allan was particularly good at providing reassurance to elderly victims of crime and would make regular visits to lone elderly residents who had been subjected to burglary and other crimes.
"He will be sorely missed although I must admit, after so much dedicated service he probably is now deserving of a well-earned rest."
