Toilets at Thetford Bus Station are to be re-opened after complaints from the public.
The toilets were closed by Breckland Council at the end of January as they needed 'considerable investment'.
But after a public outcry, Thetford Town Council voted to re-open the facilities, setting aside £10,000 of capital.
Speaking at a meeting last week, Derek Mortimer, councillor for Guildhall ward, said: "To take up the challenge is the way to go.
"The public were vehement in their protest about the loss of that particular lavatory."
The town council will take on the running of the toilets from the district council and plans to take on the £2,000 running costs and £2,000 a year reconnection charge.
Cllr Mortimer said: "If the townspeople want something so badly, we will do it for the benefit of the community.
"We have a moral right to support the townsfolk in their request which will be good for the community, travellers and the image of the town."
The district council claimed spending money on the toilets was not 'prudent' as the bus station was set to move in the next two years.
But Ed Chambers, town clerk, said the toilets were closed in the first place due to infrequent cleaning.
He said: "The cost of maintaining Cage Lane and Castle Park toilets will, no doubt, be great to start with. But we can afford to give it a go."
A coach company in the town has also offered to support the cost of maintaining the toilets.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr Chambers said the council was hopeful the toilets would be re-opened as soon as possible.
Cllr Stuart Wright, said: "We hope to have them open within a month."
