Breckland District Council is heading up a legal challenge against Boundary Committee proposals for Norfolk and Suffolk.
Today, Breckland along with South Norfolk Council and King's Lynn & West Norfolk Borough Council, jointly served procedings in the High Court against the Boundary Committee and Secretary of State for Community and Local Government.
The proceedings allege that the committee's general aproach to re-organisation was unlawful and that it failed to address any issues of affordability which prevents proper consultation on the proposals.
Consultation ends on September 26 into the committee's proposals to create one authority for Norfolk and two in Suffolk, Greater Ipswich and the rest of Suffolk, with Lowestoft being merged into Norfolk.
William Nunn, leader of Breckland Council, said consultation without cost implications would be 'like walking into a car showroom to buy a car with no information on price or running costs'.
The district councils believe that the committee should have considered whether the existing two-tier system of county and district councils would strike a better balance between value for money and providing services that people want.
