An election for a seat on the East Ward on Brandon Town Council will be held on Thursday.
Sue Bourton and Simon Le Grys are the candidates up for election, following the resignation of councillor Christa Silvester due to ill health.
Ms Bourton, who has been chairman of the town council twice before, would like the council to be more open to the community.
"I would like more consultation and feedback from the community and I would like them to be involved more," she said.
"I'd also like to see more straight talking from the council. It's got to the point where no information is coming out.
"We've got new councillors who haven't got the experience I have of local goverment. I'd like to see them go on courses and learn the job, because it is a job. It's not a two hours a month and that's the end of it."
Ms Bourton, who supports plans for the Healthy Living Centre and regeneration of Brandon train station, said there needed to be more consultation and dialogue and people would like to know more, particularly about the renovation of the Old School House building.
"It's not what I want, it's what the people out there want. It's their town and they should have a bigger say in projects," she said.
"I've got a lot of experience with the council and the town. What is needed at this moment in time on the town council is more experience."
Local businessman Simon Le Grys, of Walton Way, has lived in the town for eight years and believes he would bring a fresh approach to the council.
"I have had an interest in local politics for a long time," said Mr Le Grys.
"I have no specific issues, I just want to bring an open mind, common sense and my business experience as issues arise.
"I want to put something back into the town and serve the people with common sense and sound judgement. I'm a strong supporter of local business and like to encourage people."
Mr Le Grys said he supported plans for the Healthy Living Centre and felt the parking issue on Market Hill needed to be addressed, describing it as an 'accident waiting to happen'.
"Regarding the Healthy Living Centre, I think there will be upheaval during the building, but in the long run it will benefit everybody. The main issue is enough car parking spaces."
The election will take place on July 10 between 7am and 10pm at the community centre, in Warren Close, Brandon.
