Soldiers from Wattisham Airfield are this week starting an epic journey to help their injured colleagues – walking and cycling the length and height of the country.
Seven determined soldiers will cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats, stopping only to climb the three peaks of Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis.
They plan to complete the journey in two weeks, each cycling 1,100 miles and climbing a further 2.1 miles.
Team member Staff Sgt Glyn Painter said they had been training for three months.
"Even though we haven't done as much training as we would have liked, it's a challenge we are happy to do to support our fellow soldiers who are brave enough to volunteer to serve their country and are wounded while doing so."
It is hoped more than £5,000 will be raised for the charity Help for Heroes, which provides support to soldiers wounded in the line of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Staff Sgt Painter said: "We've all been on operations where soldiers were injured and we want to make sure their lives are made easier."
To sponsor the group, go online to www.justgiving. com/7bnreme or send a cheque to Help for Heroes, c/o Staff Sgt Glyn Painter, 7 Air Assault Battalion Reme, Wattisham Airfield, Ipswich, Suffolk IP7 7RA, made payable to 7 Air Assault Battalion Reme Central Bank.
