Proud parents and friends gathered in St Edmundsbury Cathedral to celebrate the achievements of all students at the formal occasion, which featured a keynote speech by Andrew Thomson, a consultant in innovation, change and improvement.

Dr Ann Williams, principal of the college, said: "It was a wonderful evening and it was great to celebrate students' success.

"It was a lovely setting and the parents were so proud, it was written all over their faces."

Hannah Grant, 18, from Bacton, won the Restaurant Association (Dual) Award for her work at the Zest restaurant, despite contending with some difficult personal circumstances during her course to win a year-long job at Disneyland, in Florida.

Tanya Adams, also 18, from Bury, won the Phillips/Avent Award for making best all round progress on a childcare course having been offered three places at university to fulfil her dream of becoming a primary school teacher.

Andrew McLees, 51, from Little Downham, and Aaron Polley, 19, from Haverhill, were also singled out as remarkable students by Dr Williams for their work over the past academic year.

Dr Williams said: "It is important to mark individual achievements.

"Every year group is very special and we had an awful lot of worthy winners."
