A £350 million winter sports complex for Mid Suffolk came a step closer to reality today after the Sectretary of State gave agreement in principle.
However, developers of the SnOasis project in Great Blakenham have to provide more information on its carbon footprint.
Covering 350 acres, the resort would include a 415m-long ski slope, golf course, ice rink, nightclub, 250-room hotel and 200-bed hostel.
Plans for 421 new homes next to the site and a railway station linking to Liverpool Street were given approval.
Since its inception in 2004, the development has divided opinion, with many welcoming the enormous economic benefits it could bring and others opposing it for fear of its environmental impact and increases in traffic.
A final decision on the SnOasis resort will be made on or before September 17.
