Vulnerable older people in Suffolk could be given free practical and financial advice at home, thanks to a £200,000 pilot scheme launched this week.
Havebury Housing Association and Age Concern Suffolk have joined forces with Ipswich Borough Council to reach the 129,600 people aged over 60 living independently in the county.
The free scheme is run by Supporting People in Suffolk (SP) in partnership with Suffolk County Council and, if successful, the six-month trial could be rolled out across the region.
Shelagh Green, head of housing at Havebury, said: "The services we offer in our sheltered schemes benefit only a small number of older people.
"This is offering support to all older people in the home of their choice."
Offering practical advice and support to older people who do not need sheltered accommodation or medical help, advisers will visit people in their own homes to see if they can help with home adaptations or maintenance or benefits advice.
Peggy Livermore, 78, of Northgate Lodge, Bury St Edmunds, said: "There are a lot of elderly people who haven't got any family who don't know where to go for advice.
"People can be lonely and frightened, so I hope the scheme is a success."
