Children at Combs Ford Primary School put their creative skills to work to produce designs for a play area at Pikes Meadow.
All the 480 pupils at the Glemsford Road school were invited to draw up designs for play equipment that they would like to see at the open space off Needham Road.

Mid Suffolk District Council, which owns the area, has allocated £25,000 for the scheme, which is the brainchild of Sharon Howes, a parent at the school who, along with other residents, wanted to see the play facilities improved.

The final bill is expected to be around £45,000, due to the cost of providing a suitable safety surface, and the working group is looking at ways of attracting more funding.

Cllr Keith Scarfe, who represents South Stowmarket on the district and town councils, said nearly two-thirds of the total funding was now in place and it was decided to invite the pupils to come up with ideas for the scheme.

Stowmarket Mayor Cllr Frank Whittle was invited along to the school to judge the children's designs.

The winners were: James Flack, Molly Prewer, Molly Bloomfield, Eliie Vaughan-Lewis and Sarah Cooper.
