A mobile police station is being used across Mid Suffolk in an attempt to get more officers into rural communities.
Suffolk Police launched the initiative this week at the Mid Suffolk District Council offices, in Needham Market.

Police chiefs hope it will help to increase public access to a range of services by providing a visible police presence in rural and urban communities.

Chief Inspector and district commander Neal Atwell said: "It should make a real difference to policing in the district. Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Teams will be primarily using the mobile police station, although we will be able to use it for major incidents where required."

He said it could visit up to six locations a day and is equipped with a seating area to interview people or hold meetings.

Crime prevention literature and other equipment will be on board, plus a laptop to allow officers to use police systems remotely to enter and view crimes and events.

The station has been funded by the Mid Suffolk Local Strategic Partnership, which is made up of public, private and voluntary organisations.
