A West Suffolk Hospital worker has been named top of the unsung heroes and heroines of the National Health Service.
Trudy Wright, who has been a patient affairs officer for more than four years, was honoured at a national award ceremony last night.
She was among 54 people who were nominated and was one of five that received an award for their efforts.
At the end of the night, she also got an added bonus by being named the overall winner.
The ceremony was held at London's Royal College of Physicians during a week of celebrations to mark the NHS's 60th anniversary.
Mrs Wright was nominated for her efforts to help families through bereavement, consistently taking on extra responsibilities and working closely with doctors, coroners and funeral directors to avoid causing families any unnecessary distress.
The award were given out by the Institute of Healthcare Management to highlight staff who go above and beyond the call of duty.
Mrs Wright said: "I'm just doing my job but I have to say I feel honoured that I was nominated in the first instance.
"I'm now thrilled that I have been chosen as one of the winners."
