The landlord of a Stonham Aspal pub has been left counting the cost after being targeted by burglars.
Thieves broke into The Ten Bells last Wednesday and stole cash from the till, fruit machine and cigarette machine.

Steve Warner, landlord at the pub said: It is annoying, but that is the way life is, especially with the economy as it is. When you have got a bit of a downturn, people find it easier to take it rather than earn it."

He said the burglars caused minimal damage, although he estimated he would have to spend about £200 replacing the door frame.

"They left the charity boxes, I give them credit for that. They knew exactly what they came for. The funny thing is that the fruit machine had just been emptied. But I know there was £200 in the till and I would guess another £100 in the cigarette machine."

Mr Warner, who has been landlord for five and a half years, said it was the first time the pub had been targeted.

Police are appealing for information about the burglary, which took place between 10am and 11.30pm. Contact Pc Carl Smith on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 if you have any information.
