MARSHALL HATCHICK TWO COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION THREE: Woolpit II 228-7 beat Brightlingsea 183 by 45 runs: Woolpit II bounced back to winning ways in Division Three as they eased to a 45-run success at home against Brightlingsea.

Having slipped to an emphatic defeat at Woodbridge and Old Woodbridgians the weekend before, Woolpit got back on track in impressive style.

Batting first, Woolpit reached a promising total of 228 inspired mainly by the innings of Marcus West (73) and a quick fire 38 from James Firth.

The hosts then proved just as strong with the ball as Brightlingsea were bowled out for 183 with Ali Stewart claiming a five wicket haul and two wickets apiece from Ian Firth and Dom Crame.

They will now be aiming to maintain momentum when they travel to Mildenhall II tomorrow, who overcame Needham Market last time out.

n There was further joy for the club as Woolpit III (161) secured a thrilling one-run victory over Lakenheath (160-9) in Division Eight West.

Batting first Woolpit scored 161 with youngsters Ben Boyden (32) and Harry Gale (33) top scoring.

When Lakenheath got down to five runs required off the last three overs with three wickets in hand it looked all over.

However, with skipper Gavin Taylor and James Stringer bowling the final overs they managed somehow to contrive a most unexpected win with a runout off the last ball.

n There was less success for Woolpit II (137-9) however, as they fell to a seven-wicket defeat to Bardwell (140-3) in Hunts County Bats Suffolk Sunday League Division Three.

Woolpit struggled to 137-9 against accurate Bardwell bowling, Ben Gale with 27 and Adam Coombes with 24 top scoring.

Alex Routlege and Gavin Taylor took a wicket each to give Woolpit hope, but M Lumley compiled 85 and see the visitors home.
