Thurston 25

Thetford 9

THURSTON hosted top-of-the-table Thetford in a bruising encounter and ran out comfortable winners.

The hosts succumbed to the opposition’s pressure first with a penalty awarded just inside their own half, which Thetford’s metronomic kicker stepped up to open the scoring.

Rangers quickly reorganised and, after several series of play, Aaron Waters crashed through to touch down in the corner against his old club.

The rest of the first half was evenly contested, with the only score coming from the visitors, who converted another penalty to take the scoreline to 6-5 at the break.

After the interval, Thurston forced a penalty which captain Ben Sinclair duly scored, before Thetford responded with a penalty kick of their own to reclaim the lead.

Thurston’s forwards then took control of the game, allowing for an attacking ball to be shipped out for Sinclair to score and convert his own try, followed by Waters extending the lead with his second try.

Jack Weaver-Smith capped off the hosts’ victory, sprinting through a tiring defensive line to score a bonus-point try.
