Stowmarket kicked off the new season with a victory over newly-promoted Norwich.
The home side were up and running after 12 minutes when Tom Searles struck a penalty between the posts.
Stow were making line breaks at will, but could not quite find the finish until the ball was worked into space from a quick tap penalty and Ricky Jones touched down for a try, converted by Searles.
Jones repeated the feat with a similar try on 27 minutes and Charlie Easton, making his home debut, scored a fine individual try after another line break.
With Easton’s try successfully converted, Stowmarket ended the half 22-0 up.
The second half was only four minutes old when Jones rounded off a fine team move and scored a converted try under the posts.
It looked like the floodgates would open, but Norwich dug in and kept the home side at bay until towards the end of the game.
Stowmarket had to wait until the 75th minute when Jones rounded off a good day at the office with his fourth try of the day, duly converted again by Searles.
However, their clean sheet was ruined when they were turned over from a tap penalty and Norwich sped away to score a consolation converted try.
Stow travel to Holt tomorrow (3pm).
n Stowmarket’s third team opened their season with a 34-17 triumph at Mistley.
