RUGBY: Twickenham final date for duo
TWO Bury St Edmund Rugby Club 1st XV players will taste action at the headquarters of English rugby tomorrow.
Chris Kent and Chris Oxborrow are members of the Eastern Counties squad to meet North Midlands in the final of the Tetley's County Shield to be staged on the Twickenham turf.
The county final is the first part of a day of rugby at Twickenham, the Zurich Cup final between Bath and Wasps completing four-match day of action.
"It is going to be a great occasion, an amazing experience," said 25-year-old Oxborrow, who travels with his club-mate and the rest of the squad to London today for a pre-match tour of the ground.
Both Oxborrow, a mechanical engineer, and Kent, Head of PE at Horringer Middle School, were part of Bury's Suffolk Cup winning team and have been regular members of the Suffolk squad this season.
"I am really looking forward to it. The occasion finishes off what has been a good season," said Kent, who was captain of the sub counties tournament winning Suffolk side this season.
The Haberden duo will be supported by a coach of travelling club-mates and family.
Eastern Counties – the union of Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire – defeated Buckinghamshire 44-14, Kent 29-15, Dorset & Wilts 37-17 and Essex 32-15 to earn their big day out.
They are already guaranteed a place in the Tetley's County Championship next season, among the top 16 county sides.
