Pressure put on top three

LONDON ONE NORTH

Chingford 5 Bury St Edmunds 59

BURY St Edmunds kept up their pressure on the top three clubs with a convincing victory at Chingford.

As the game kicked off, Bury’s intent was evident as the first try under posts came from the backs with good support and angles of running.

This was easily converted by Will Martin and Martin did not have long to wait before being called on to slot over a penalty from close range.

Chingford read the Bury game plan and tried to keep the ball in their pack.

From their lineouts, this seemed to work well and — after rumbling up the left wing — the Chingford scrum-half darted over from the back of the maul to score a well-worked try.

Continual penalties racked up against Chingford — deep kicks to touch and the resulting lineouts saw the Bury backs carve their way over with two further converted tries before the half-time whistle.

The second half continued as the first with a further five tries without reply. Ill-discipline from Chingford saw the flash of a yellow card twice.

The bonus point was in the bag and changes were made by Bury to give some new faces a run out and rest others prior to the match this weekend.

During the game, Tim Mann, Jones (2), Fox, Martin Webdale and Brentan Krammer piled on the tries, but special mention must be made of Kenny Eggers, who scored a hat-trick and Krammer who was subbed-off, but returned for a blood injury to Mann.

Martin kicked six out of seven attempts, providing a lift to the scoreline, which has been missing earlier in the season.
