Newly-formed Bury St Edmunds Foxes travelled to Beccles, who gained revenge for a previous defeat, clinching a narrow 34-22 success.

After falling behind, the visitors battled back with Pippa Hendron crashing over following a strong attack including Browyn Skipworth, Becky Meadows-Smith and Elaine Engle.

However, they were not level long as Beccles went straight down other end to regain their lead through Chloe Neale.

Back came Bury and, in a move similar to their first try, drew level once more, this time the explosive Engle forcing her way over the line, but again the hosts fought back and reinstated their lead to take a slender advantage into the break.

A rejuvenated Bury started the second half in spectacular fashion as stout defensive work from Louisa Honeybun and Lucy Martin created a break away for Sarah Gomersall, who took advantage of the space afforded to her to break through the Beccles defensive line and score between the posts.

But with deficit redeuced to just two points, Beccles demonstrated their attacking prowess with two quick-fire tries, one of which following an extended period of pressure that saw the Foxes defend 12 phases of play on their line.

The Foxes, however, were not finished and rallied once more to add a final try as quick handling released Engle to race away and add her second try of the encounter, but it proved too little late as the home side held on for victory.
