ALL SMILES: Bury Under-10s after reaching the Prima Tiger Cup final

BURY St Edmunds Under-10s are celebrating reaching the final of the Prima Tiger Cup for the first time.

The youngsters booked their place in the final after knocking out Rutland side Oakham, the defending champions, 2-0 courtesy of tries from Harvey Hempstead and Harvey Williams at Welford Road.

Bury will now meet Melbourne from Derbyshire in the final, which will be held at the world-famous home of Leicester Tigers before their Aviva Premiership game with Gloucester on Sunday, March 4.

Dave Mountford, Bury head coach, said: “Oakham were strong opposition and it was a really tough game with a lot of hard tackling. We had about 65 travel over from Bury, they made the long trek on a double-decker bus and we are thrilled to get through.

“This is the best Bury Under-10s have ever done in the Prima Tiger Cup and we are absolutely delighted.

“The whole competition and the way it has been organised has been fantastic. It’s a credit to the team at Leicester Tigers. All of the players had a fantastic time – it’s the chance of a lifetime to play at Welford Road.”

Scott Clarke, Tigers’ community manager, added: “It was a fantastic day of Prima action and the players at Bury St Edmunds can feel proud of their achievements. The players, staff and supporters were a credit to the club.

“The Prima Tiger Cup games provided a great exhibition of skill and commitment and it was brilliant to see such support at Welford Road for the players.”
