Bury overcome the Lions in pre-season battle
Peterborough Lions 29
Bury St Edmunds 38
BURY began their preparations for the forthcoming season with a hard-fought victory over Midlands One outfit Peterborough Lions.
Bury began brightly, Matt Page opening the scoring with a try, before he was concussed shortly after and took no further part in the match.
The hosts responded with two tries after a dominant period of play to take a 12-7 advantage into the break.
After the restart, Bury again started strongly and hit back with a try of their own as Krammer fed Bixby to score out wide.
However, they were punished for some sloppy play as an easy turnover allowed Peterborough to retake the lead with another try.
Bury again hit back and took the lead with tries from Rob Duchesne and Snelling to hold a 26-17 advantage.
In the final 20 minutes, both sides scored two tries apiece.
Good work by Blatch and Eddison created an opportunity for Matt Bell to flop over from close range.
On resumption, Peterborough reacted quickest and engineered another score in the corner.
Bury responded with a try of their own, Harrison the fortunate benefactor of a missed knock-on earlier in the attack.
In the final play of the match, Peterborough scored from another strong run on the angle, but Bury held on for a victory that will no doubt have pleased coach Gavin Hogg.
