There were mixed results for the area’s rugby clubs over the wekeend with Bury St Edmunds, Diss, Sudbury and Hadleigh all recording good victories while Stowmarket, Newmarket, Haverhill and Thetford went down to defeat.
Bury St Edmunds recorded their first home win in National League Division Two South, beating Canterbury 39-10 and running in six tries for the bonus point at the GK IPA Haberden.
Chris Lord scored two, his first after 95 seconds, with others from Tim Mann, Sean Stapleton, Clement Le Roy and club captain Chris Snelling.
Bury led 17-10 at half-time in front of a crowd of 510.
In London League Division Two North East both Diss and Sudbury made it three wins from three starts.
Sudbury won 47-7 at Basildon, with try scorers including Shaun Smith (2), Bruce Cowley, Chris Whybrow and Frazer Beckett, while Diss beat Saffron Walden 52-31 at home.
Stowmarket’s home London League Division Three North East match against Lowestoft and Yarmouth ended in a 31-23 defeat.
In the Greene King IPA Eastern Counties League Division One Newmarket improved on last week’s thrashing at the hands of Ely as they were beaten 37-7 at home to Crusaders, while Thetford lost 63-13 at home to Wymondham.
Hadleigh beat Mistley 54-29 at home in Division Two South, and Haverhill lost 48-7 at home to Bury Wolves in Division Two West.
