Robinson's four-gold medal haul

THIRTY young swimmers from West Suffolk Swimming Club, competed at the Suffolk County Development Championships, held at Crown Pools in Ipswich.

The junior girls started in fast form as 11-year-old Claire Robinson took gold in the 200m butterfly in a time of 3.04.32, and another gold in the 200m freestyle (2.46.04). Claire’s medal haul continued, bringing her total to four golds and a bronze.

Bethany Mottram (10), won two gold medals in the breastroke events (200m breast in 3.55.78 and 100m breast in 1.51.57).

Hannah Sparrow won gold in the 100m individual medley, in a time of 1.37.81, followed by two silvers and a bronze in the backstroke and breaststroke events.

Casey Maggs won a bronze medal in 200m individual medley, and Chloe Riches, aged just nine years in her first competition, secured silver and two bronze medals in butterfly, backstroke and freestyle races.

Not to be outdone by the girls, 10-year-old Oliver Beresford won a gold medal for his 50m breastroke in a time of 53.95 seconds.

Edward Briars (11), knocked 17 seconds from his entry time to win a gold medal in 200m breastroke in 3:27.30. His 50m breastroke time resulted in a further silver medal.

In the 13-year-old boys, Patrick Briars and Robert Wyatt won four bronze and two bronze medals respectively, and the senior boys, Declan Gosling and Jamie Wyatt, also did well, winning a handful of medals each.

Other members all produced individual personal best times.

l STOWMARKET Swimming Club had a fantastic weekend of competition at the County Development Championships, held at Crown Pools, Ipswich.

The 44-strong team clinched third place behind the bigger teams from Team Ipswich and Beccles.

Stowmarket collected 20 gold, 21 silver and 10 bronze medals from the 197 individual swims. They had 150 personal best times (pb) and 25 qualifiers (CQT) for next year’s championships.

Matt Reynolds (13) was the most successful boy, winning four golds and two silver medals, and Anya Kemble (13) the most successful girl, picking up a gold, silver and bronze.

The team continue training next week and are looking forward to the final round of the Summer League.
