The inaugural outing of the Elveden Road Race series was an undoubted success, despite atrocious weather.
Stuart Pryce (Strada Sport) beat Felix Barker (St Ives CC) in the uphill sprint for the line, at the end of a punishing 42 miles in the main race of the day for the Elite, 1st, 2nd and 3rd category riders.
In the race for the 3rd Cat riders, Pryce’s teammate, Dieter Rower, beat Lee Sturman (West Suffolk Wheelers & Triathlon Club) over the shorter distance of 25 miles.
In the senior races, the day had begun with the 4th category race, with just under 100 riders lining up to tackle the 25 miles.
Thomas Ward (Giant Radlett) emerged as the winner, ahead of Darren Rutterford (Iceni Velo) and James Hockridge (Colchester Rovers).
The Women’s race saw Hannah Barnes, riding for MG Maxifuel ProCycling, finish 10 bike-lengths clear.
Her younger sister, Alice (Scott Contessa), pipped Tanya Griffiths (Ipswich BC) to claim the runners-up spot.
In the two Youth races, Daniel Tulett (Hargroves Cycles RT) was first in the Youth A race for the Under-16s, with Clover Murray (Braintree Velo CRC) the first girl finisher.
Adam Botteley (Bourne Wheelers), was the winner in the Youth B race for Under-14s, with Rachel Jary (VC Londres) finishing third to claim the first girl prize.
