Pacers revive popular race

SAINT Edmund Pacers are reviving the popular Bury 20-mile road race.

The revamped event – the Tarpley 20-mile – will be staged from Beyton School on Sunday, February 26, and will incorporate a supporting 10-mile race.

The Pacers held their original 20-miler from 1985 to 2000, initially at Bury Rugby Club and later Bury Sports Centre, with fields in excess of 1,000 being commonplace.

The new course will be around the villages of Beyton, Hessett, Felsham, Brettenham, Gedding and Drinkstone, and will be the perfect gauge for anyone running the London Marathon in April.

The entry limit is 500, and entries are being accepted on line via the www.pacers.org.uk website.

There will be no entries on the day.

Meanwhile, the fourth race in the Suffolk Winter Cross Country League takes place this Sunday, hosted by Bungay Black Dog RC, at Ditchingham.

The junior event will start at 11am and the seniors at 11.15am.

The Pacers have a healthy lead in this league, with two meetings remaining.
