Young Isabella impresses judges at Hickstead

BACTON Community Primary School pupil Isabella Stanley received a special gold embedded rosette for coming in the top eight of her class at Hickstead’s world-renowned Royal International Horse Show.

The six-year-old, who moved to Suffolk from Essex, where her grandparents Bernie and Sue Cox already lived, only four weeks ago, took seventh place in the first ridden lead rein class.

Riding on Welsh Section A pony Monksfield Huntsman, which she calls Foxy, Stanley wowed the judges with her natural ability in the saddle to take her biggest honour to date in front of her proud family, including parents Sam and Mike.

The Cotton resident, near Stowmarket, qualified for the prestigious event at Norton Heath in Essex and also finished fourth among a very talented field at the Royal Norfolk Show.

Her grandfather Bernie Cox said: “We were amazed she got held up seventh out of 25 as one of the horses was owned by an Arab prince.

“It was quite a tear-jerker.”

Stanley, a member of Rochford Essex Pony Club hoping to transfer to Suffolk Pony Club, was competing in Cheltenham this week in her attempts to qualify for the Horse of the Year show in October.
