Eastgate Amateur Boxing Club’s Tommy Taylor earned a unanimous points decision as he defeated Paul Saxton in Derby last Thursday.
The 80kg junior won a close first round, forcing Saxton to become the aggressive boxer.
However, with Taylor catching his opponent with the cleaner punches in the second round and showing great three-to-four punch combinations to keep the pressure on in the third, the decision was an easy one for the judges.
Sam Williams and Jimmy Fell travelled to St Ives, with the former — who has already had five bouts this season — adding another win to his collection.
He had to box at range to start with and had to think about his attacks against counter-punching Kingfisher boxer Billy Potter.
As the bout went on, 14-year-old Williams got used to it and used his fitness in the last round to impress the judges with some great scoring and precise backhands to win on a majority.
Fell, 19, continued where he left off on his bout at Eastgate’s show in October, giving his opponent from Scarborough a standing eight-count before winning on points.
