TABLE tennis players of all ages have been encouraged to try their hand at the sport following a successful community day at Bury St Edmunds library on Saturday.

The seven-hour event, which was organised and hosted by Bury’s library, with assistance from the Bury St Edmunds and District Table Tennis League and its representatives, allowed players aged from seven to 70 have a go at the Olympic sport.

Table tennis veterans and library goers alike took part, which saw more than 25 people attend.

Ray Stapleton, coaching secretary and treasurer of the Bury St Edmunds and District Table Tennis League, described the open day as a ‘tremendous success’.

“We had a fairly steady stream of people,” he said. “Most of the staff on duty in the library joined in as they were in the general area all day, and they told me they thought it had been very good. It went down well.”
