MEMBERS of the Beck Row Tang Soo Do Karate Club competed in the yearly Regional Championship, held in Birmingham, with 400 competitors taking part.

In the individual categories, Arriana Chipchase fought her way through the rounds in her free sparring red belt category to achieve a well-deserved second place.

This was followed up by Tyler Ungless in the blue to black belt 10-13 years individual category, beating recent and current grand champions to achieve an outstanding third in free sparring.

Linda Sedlacek, who performed an impressive individual form, successfully achieved a second in her adult orange to orange tag category, while in the 17-35 years category, Emma Wallace, 2nd Dan Black Belt, competed in all three individual categories of weapons, forms and free sparring, coming up against regional, national and world grand champions.

Lillymae Chipchase, brown tag, also competed in all three of her individual categories in a large group of seven to eight year-olds and was remarked by masters, as the student to look out for in the September championships.

As well as the individual categories, two teams represented Beck Row, consisting of three students who perform simultaneously.

In the white to brown belt category, Beck Row Team A were Jasmine Key, orange tag, Amari Magee, green belt and Ellie Chisholm, brown belt, while Beck Row Team B, in the brown tag to black belt category, were Lillymae Chipchase, Arriana Chipchase and Tyler Ungless.

Both teams placed highly in their large groups of up to 15 teams.

Refelcting on the Championships, Instructor Matthew Wallace had nothing but praise for his students.

“My students put their hearts and souls into every category they were in, and every student who competed shone,” he said.

“I was extremely impressed, and proud of the results.

“Well done to all of Beck Row’s Tang Soo Do students and parents for all of their hard work and support.”
