Priors B promoted after win against Stowmarket

PRIORS B will be playing in Division Two of the West Suffolk Netball League next season after ensuring their promotion with a 49-19 victory over divisional champions Stowmarket.

With Priors needing to win on the final night and hope Breckland B didn’t beat Stowmarket II it was a tense finale, but it ended up all going Priors way.

Justine Currry and Francessca Young starred for Priors on the night with Stow’s Donna Riches and Leanne Osborne taking the accolades for the defeated champions.

Meanwhile, Breckland B’s 54-13 defeat to Stowmarket II, without their regular shooters, proved pivotal as they finished one point behind in third, though Becky Bell was delighted with her side’s season, having only just been promoted.

“It has been a great season for us, and I am very proud of our Breckland B girls, we were promoted from Division Four last year, so to play so well this year and end up in the top half, never mind ending up third, I think is a great accomplishment.”

Gemma Brackenbury and Julia Rodgers helped do the damage to put paid to hopes of making it back-to-back promotions.

Bell added: “Lauren Mulvihill was our captain and she has been fantastic – I think her encouragment and infectious enthusiasm proved vital to us doing so well, along with great team work and communication.”

Going down to Division Four are Panthers and Rougham Harriers, despite both putting in brave last round performances.

Panthers drew 25 all with Pink Ladies in their relegation decider, with Lucy Hards and Sharon Ongliss shinning for the Panthers while Sam Howard and Andrea Chadwick proved to be the thorns in their side.

Thetford B beat Rougham Harriers 35-31 with Sue Collins and Laura Flowers doing the damage which the Harriers’ on song Allison Pollard and Joanna Foulds powerless to prevent another defeat.
