Olympic fever takes club by storm
LONDON 2012 was out in force at Wortham Tennis Club where they held an Olympic themed tennis tournament for charity on Saturday.
Twelve countries were represented with two adults and two juniors in each team.
It was a colourful spectacle with each team parading the court whilst waving the national flag and wearing their sporting colours.
The tournament was organised into round robin groups where adults played adults, juniors played juniors and double groups where adults and juniors played together.
After the lively round robin groups, the crowd were entertained with two highly competitive semi finals with Jamaica playing Russia and Italy against Spain.
The two countries which progressed to the final were Russia and Italy.
The countries were represented by Mallen Baker, Steph Smith, Chris Smith and John Hughes.
Italy won the gold with Russia taking the silver and Jamaica winning their play off against Spain to gain the bronze medal.
The tournament was sponsored by Wortham club members Netty and Hans Verkroost.
Overall the event raised approximately £400 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance Service.
On Sunday August 5, starting at 10am, Wortham Tennis Club will host the annual South Norfolk Mixed Doubles Tournament.
The Division One tournament will be at 10am and Division Two at 1.30pm.
