Numbers up for new archers
HITTING THE TARGET: Club members Chris Mannox (standing) and Bryn Pedrick helped visitors put their archery skills to the test
SAINT Edmunds Archers Club reported an increase in beginner courses after the success of their ‘Big Archery Weekend’, organised by Archery GB.
The weekend’s scheme, hosted at the Whepstead Community Hall and sports field, was attended by hundreds of people.
The club concluded hundreds of individuals turned up after 45 people signed up to the four week beginners course, which are regularly run at the club.
This has boosted the club’s waiting list to unprecedented heights, a situation that should become manageable when the club builds its new facilities.
Elsewhere in the event, visitors were particularly interested in the ‘Have a Go’ queue where members of the public were given 12 arrows to shoot at a target. They were tutored by club coaches Chris Mannox, Sarah Patrick and Dave Eagle.
With the 2012 London Olympics adding interest to domestic archery, visitors turned out to watch Club members aim at targets 10 to 60 yards away. Club members were also happy to answer questions related to the sport.
