WAITING GAME: Action from Larkwood Fishery as an angler takes part in the East of England heat of the Fishing For Heroes competition

A GOOD day was had by all at Blackdyke Trout Fishery on Sunday.

Thanks were given to all who supported the float tubing day, especially Darren Lee, Carl Ward, Tim Gaunt Baker and Eyebrook Tackle Shop, who helped the beginners and for bringing along spare tubes for people to try.

Bill Morris, a float tubing first timer, caught a lovely rainbow.

This week, most fish have been taken off the surface. Klinkhammers, sedges, black hoppers and beetle imitations taking limit bags. With the lake free from weed and algae, the fish can be seen rising to the fly in the clear water.

LARKWOOD hosted the East of England heat for Fishing For Heroes competition last week.

The anglers taking part raised a tremendous sum of £1,414, including donations.

This was even more than last year, which is a real achievement considering the current financial situation.

The largest amount was raised by Terry Baker, who collected £223.

The winner of the competition was Malcolm Cole with runner-up George Worth. Both did well on a difficult day despite a restocking on the day before.

Malcolm’s biggest fish was 5lb 4oz, which also helped towards heaviest bag.

Cole and Worth go forward to fish in the finals, held at Dever Springs, in Hampshire.

The organisers thaked everyone who donated to the worthy cause.
