Fish on the move in freezing weather

editorial image

Fishing at Larkwood had been slower this week until one of our regulars worked out where the fish had gone.

In the freezing weather, fish had moved from within a foot of the surface to 15 feet down, so the order of the day is a fast intermediate or a slow sinkline with a small lure or marabou damsel retrieved slowly.

Tuesday was interesting day; with a temperature of minus six in the morning making fishing almost impossible with the fly line freezing in the rod rings.

However, a few hearty souls did brave the weather to enjoy some action.

n For the brave anglers that visited Blackdyke trout fly fishery, they were rewarded with some excellent sport.

Plenty of trout taking lures cats whisker and damsels being the best with Trevor Hagger top rod this week with 15lb on Thursday.

From around the aerators the lake is free of ice at the moment and won’t completely freeze so there’s always somewhere to fish.

Eyebrook Tackle Shop will be at the fishery on Saturday, February 23, offering new tackle to stock up on your new seasons sundries.

Meanwhile, the Airflo Bank Masters will take place a day later.

People wishing to enter should visit www.iain

n Bury St Edmunds Angling Association will be holding their AGM on Monday, February 4, starting at 7.30pm at the Moreton Hall Community Centre. Any members wishing to place an item on the agenda should write to the secretary by January 28 or email him at davidplampin@btinternet.com
