England awaits for County Upper School duo

County Upper School’s Alex Browne and Charlie Fitch are set for national honours after being named in England’s Under-18’s men’s preliminary squad.

The pair, who are part of coach Darren Johnson’s basketball squad at the school, have been playing for the East of England set up in recent months.

And it was at a recent national regional tournament that both players caught the eye of the Under-18 selectors, with their performances warranting a place on the initial England squad list.

“I am sure both players are as proud of this accomplishment as we are,” said coach Johnson. “This is a good reflection of all the hard work both players have put in.

“Last year Alex narrowly missed out on a place with the East of England Under-17 team, but has worked hard throughout this past season to become a better player and this accomplishment is a true reflection of how far he has come as a player.

“Charlie made it to the last 16 players of the Under-16 England national team last year and has continued to develop this year, this accomplishment is again a good reflection of his development over the past year.”

County Upper School will be holding an open evening on Thursday, November 22, starting at 7pm. Players looking to play competitive basketball are encouraged to attend.
