Confidence helps boost medal spree

A group of 20 West Suffolk Swimming Club members attended the Deben Open Meet held in Woodbridge over the weekend and returned with a medal haul.

Buoyed by great results in the WSSC Club Championships the previous weekend, swimmers went into this competition with confidence.

And so it proved on the Friday evening as Charlie Whyte gained a first place in his 1,500m front crawl, while Charlie Eshelby achieved silver.

Both swam to huge personal best times.

Over the next two days, Niamh Perry, Chloe-Jeane Parsley, Jordanne Sillitoe, William Harpur-Davies, Ben Wilkinson, Olivia Nicolai, Beth Mottram, Ciaran Riches, Gregory Buckle, Andrew Kimpton, Alex Parke, Emily McMahon and Charlie Whyte all went one better by clinching gold.

Second places were achieved by Hannah McNaul, Beth McCartney, Eleanor Shields, Tom Buckle, Alex Parke, Ciaran Riches, Olivia Nicolai and Georgie Brittain, while Shannon Riley, Eleanor Shields, Gregory Buckle and Chloe Riches picked up bronze medals.

Many personal bests and County Qualifying Times were achieved, with Jordanne Sillitoe and Beth Mottram both securing their third 2013 Eastern Region Qualifying Time.
