MEDAL MOMENTS: Maureen McCarthy and Christine Anthony

TWO senior members of West Suffolk Athletics Club came home with medals at the 2012 Eastern Veterans’ Track and Field Championships in Bedfordshire.

The blustery conditions prevented fast times, but Maureen McCarthy (V50) had a superb victory in the 1,500m.

McCarthy produced one of her trademark runs, she was 30 metres behind the leader at the bell but she surged to the front to take the lead with 40m to go and crossed the line first in a respectable time of 5.30.

Christine Anthony took on
the 3,000m first and produced a third overall (second V45) in 11.50.

Just 90 minutes later, she was lining up in the 1,500m and secured another silver medal with third overall (2nd V50) in 5.52.
