Bury duo win air ambulance competition

THE annual East Anglian Air Ambulance Petanque Competition took place on June 4.

Pen-Y-Coed Petanque arranged the Mixed Doubles French boule competition, hosted by British Sugar Sports and Social Club in Bury St Edmunds.

Eighteen teams from all over the UK took part, with the furthest travelling from Doncaster as well as teams from Lowestoft, Bedfordshire, Essex, Kent and local teams from Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds.

The Diamond Jubilee occasion was also celebrated, with special star prize games throughout the day, A last place trophy and a Royal Toast at lunchtime.

Together with the raffle and donations, the total raised was £380.30.

Thanks go to Peter Griffiths, from British Sugar, who helped organise the venue.

All the teams played five games during the day in a random draw snake, and the top two teams went on to a final at the end to find the winner.

The next two teams played off for third and fourth place.

The winners were Marion Halsey and Lee Moss (Bury St Edmunds), 2 Sheila and Brian King (Kent), 3 Joyce and Mick Nash (Kent), 4 Tania and Andy Wilson (Stowmarket).

Marion Halsey and Phil Boarder from Pen-Y-Coed Petanque would like to thank all those involved in taking part and organising the event.
