Bryant backs duo to reach final
EASTGATE Amateur Boxing Club coach Mick Bryant has backed talented youngsters Jake Dykstra and Tommy Taylor to clinch final berths in the National ABA Schools’ Championships this weekend in Middlesex.
Dykstra, 14, from County Upper School and 15-year-old team-mate Taylor for Sudbury Upper School, secured their semi-final places in the 52kg and 75 kg classes respectively with quarter-final victories last weekend in Bristol.
Dykstra’s will now meet West Ham’s Charlie Kenny after comfortable victory over Makenzie Waker from Poole, while Taylor outpointed Michael Watts from The King Alfred Club Somerset to set up his semi-final encounter with Callum Donugal from Orpington and Bryant is confident the Rougham-based club pair will reach next weekend’s finals in Mansfield.
“Both of the lads boxed extremely well and we are very pleased with them,” he said.
“Everyone at the club has the utmost confidence that both will reach the finals and come back with the titles.
“Tommy reached the final last year and Jake the year before so they have the experience but we won’t be counting our chickens before they have hatched.
“They have both done great up to now and it would be great for them to step up to the Junior championships next year with titles under their belts.
