Battling show sees Bombers fall just short

NATIONAL LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE SOUTH

Bury Bombers 37

Essex Outlaws 61

Bury Bombers battled hard, but could not match league leaders Essex Outlaws in Chelmsford.

The opposition had their full complement of players and Bombers travelled with the successful squad from the match before Christmas and hopes of another win.

The local side started strongly, matching Outlaws in points, but the Essex team found their form with their captain — a Super League player — sinking three baskets in quick succession to make the score 14-8 at the end of the first quarter.

Outlaws continued with a strong defence in the second quarter that Bombers could not penetrate.

Jack Perry was the only scorer with a three-point shot in this quarter.

The third quarter was Bombers’ best of the match.

Coach Jill Anderson changed the format, with Jack Perry, Aiden Hughes and Drew Stevenson scoring three baskets each, holding the Outlaws to just three baskets in total.

However, despite winning this quarter convincingly, the score stood at 38-28.

In the final quarter, the opposition returned to their starting five and came out worthy winners at the end with a score of 61-37. Perry was awarded shot of the day.

Bombers’ next match is away to the Exeter Otters on January 27.
